Recertification

What's the Difference?

Reconditioning restores the equipment, while recertification confirms it meets safety standards. Both steps are essential to ensure athletes are properly protected and programs remain compliant.

Recertification

Recertification is the formal verification and testing that equipment meets the safety standards established by the original manufacturer and NOCSAE. Once completed, it is officially recertified and identified with a NOCSAE recertification sticker.

Recertification

Football helmets are required to be re-certified at a minimum, of every other year per the manufacturers.

Helmets that have a lapsed certification per NOCSAE DOC. 001 may be recertified under most conditions.

Recertification

Baseball and Softball Helmets are reconditioned and not recertified due to the limited ability to replace internal parts. We provide cleaning, sanitation and paint of baseball and softball helmets. Please see reconditioning for more information.

Reconditioning

Reconditioning is the hands-on process of restoring protective athletic equipment to safe, functional condition. It includes a detailed inspection, professional cleaning and sanitizing, replacement or repair of worn components, and performance testing. The goal of reconditioning is to extend the usable life of equipment while maintaining proper fit, function, and protection for the athlete.

Reconditioning

Football helmets, NAERA recommends every football helmet be reconditioned and recertified prior to being issued to all athletes, unless stated otherwise by the manufacturer. Helmets that have a lapsed certification per NOCSAE DOC. 001 may be recertified under most conditions.

Reconditioning

Lacrosse helmets should be reconditioned after the initial 3 years of manufacture date and every year thereafter, up to 10 years from the manufacturer date.

Reconditioning

Football Shoulder Pads: While there is no manufacturer-established reconditioning standard for shoulder pads, Integrity follows a rigorous process that includes professional cleaning, sanitization, and a comprehensive inspection. Each set of shoulder pads is evaluated for overall condition, structural integrity, and readiness for play to ensure it meets

Integrity’s game-ready expectations before being returned to service.

Reconditioning

Football Face Mask: If a face mask has 5 points or more of exposed metal, the face mask must be replaced or redipped to restore the protective coating. If the face mask is bent or has broken welds, the face mask will be considered rejected and a new face mask should be installed.

Reconditioning

Baseball and Softball Helmets: These helmets are reconditioned and not re-certified due to the limited ability to replace internal parts. We provide cleaning, sanitation and paint of baseball and softball helmets.
Only a facility licensed by NOCSAE may perform recertification and apply the official NOCSAE recertification label.
